Three times Hannibal broke eye contact with Will. -It’s incredible what Mads Mikkelsen brings to this performance. He’s the apex predator right? Hannibal is strong, confident, and relentless. Yet, in these moments he’s also delicate. There’s a vulnerability, softness, tenderness. Will brings this out in him. Hannibal’s new emotions are so powerful that he’s embarrassed by them. It’s bordering on shyness, which is the last thing you would expect from a man like him. The last gif shows this especially as Hannibal confesses that, “This is all I ever wanted for you, Will. For both of us.” It’s how he honestly feels. It’s scary to put yourself out there like that, I’ve experienced it firsthand. There’s always a sliver self-doubt involved, and fear of sounding silly to the person you’re exposed to. The fact that he doesn’t meet Will’s eyes says a lot.
